What Is Sterling?
Sterling is a spectrally selective film series. It keeps out a good share of the sun’s heat while letting in a high level of natural light, so rooms feel cooler without feeling dark.
The range runs from Sterling 70, which is lightly tinted and hard to notice from inside, to Sterling 40, which gives more heat, glare and privacy control.
Sterling has a soft, neutral reflective finish from outside. The darker shades are more reflective, which also adds some daytime privacy.
Warranty: Solar Gard manufacturer warranty, terms confirmed in your quote.
Great for
- Offices and homes that want bright rooms
- Larger commercial glazing
- Rooms with moderate sun and glare
- Some daytime privacy with Sterling 40
Think twice if
- You want zero reflection from outside
- Your strata restricts reflective film
- You need maximum heat rejection

Sterling vs Stainless Steel
Both are neutral-looking films. Sterling lets in more light for similar heat rejection, for example Sterling 40 lets in 41% of light and rejects 62% of heat, while Stainless Steel 20 lets in 23% and rejects 61%.
Stainless Steel is darker and has lower reflectance at each level, so it suits rooms that need more glare control.
Compare With Stainless SteelSterling FAQs
Is Sterling reflective?
Moderately. Exterior reflectance ranges from 13% on Sterling 70 to 32% on Sterling 40. The lighter shades look close to clear glass.
Which Sterling shade gives privacy?
Sterling 40 gives the most daytime privacy thanks to its higher reflectance. Like all films, privacy reverses at night when it is brighter inside.
Is Sterling good for offices?
Yes. It keeps workspaces bright, which reduces the need for lighting, while cutting solar heat and UV.
